I've always been intrigued by science and technology and intensely curious about the nature of nature. Astrophysics has always been my favorite branch of science, and I've studied it informally all of my life. The high school I attended in Toledo, Ohio, Robert S. Rogers High School, was one of the few high schools in the U.S.A. with a "real" planetarium. I attended college at The University of Toledo, where I obtained a B.S. in physics with a minor in math. My experiences at this university were positive, and the physics department there was an exceptional place to get an undergraduate degree in physics. I worked in the department as an undergraduate research assistant the entire four years that I attended the university (beginning the summer after I graduated from high school). That, too, was an extremely positive experience that I enjoyed tremendously. UT's campus, although small for a university with approximately 25,000 students (while I was there), is quite attractive, and generally a nice place to walk around, study, or just hang out between classes. I then moved to East Lansing, Michigan, to attend graduate school at Michigan State University, better known to some as good old "Moo U", making reference to the agricultural nature of the university. I obtained an M.S. degree in physics, with an emphasis on astronomy/astrophysics. MSU has an absolutely gorgeous campus, which is the largest in the world, and has more species of trees than any other university. |
